1 Blessed are those whose way is pure, ♦︎
who walk in the law of the Lord.
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies ♦︎
and seek him with their whole heart,
3 Those who do no wickedness, ♦︎
but walk in his ways.
4 You, O Lord, have charged ♦︎
that we should diligently keep your commandments.
5 O that my ways were made so direct ♦︎
that I might keep your statutes.
6 Then should I not be put to shame, ♦︎
because I have regard for all your commandments.
7 I will thank you with an unfeigned heart, ♦︎
when I have learned your righteous judgements.
8 I will keep your statutes; ♦︎
O forsake me not utterly.
9 How shall young people cleanse their way ♦︎
to keep themselves according to your word?
10 With my whole heart have I sought you; ♦︎
O let me not go astray from your commandments.
11 Your words have I hidden within my heart, ♦︎
that I should not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O Lord; ♦︎
O teach me your statutes.
13 With my lips have I been telling ♦︎
of all the judgements of your mouth.
14 I have taken greater delight in the way of your testimonies ♦︎
than in all manner of riches.
15 I will meditate on your commandments ♦︎
and contemplate your ways.
16 My delight shall be in your statutes ♦︎
and I will not forget your word.

42 Then there united with them a company of Hasideans, mighty warriors of Israel, all who offered themselves willingly for the law. 43And all who became fugitives to escape their troubles joined them and reinforced them. 44They organized an army, and struck down sinners in their anger and renegades in their wrath; the survivors fled to the Gentiles for safety. 45And Mattathias and his friends went around and tore down the altars; 46they forcibly circumcised all the uncircumcised boys that they found within the borders of Israel. 47They hunted down the arrogant, and the work prospered in their hands. 48They rescued the law out of the hands of the Gentiles and kings, and they never let the sinner gain the upper hand.
49 Now the days drew near for Mattathias to die, and he said to his sons: Arrogance and scorn have now become strong; it is a time of ruin and furious anger. 50Now, my children, show zeal for the law, and give your lives for the covenant of our ancestors.
51 Remember the deeds of the ancestors, which they did in their generations; and you will receive great honour and an everlasting name. 52Was not Abraham found faithful when tested, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness? 53Joseph in the time of his distress kept the commandment, and became lord of Egypt. 54Phinehas our ancestor, because he was deeply zealous, received the covenant of everlasting priesthood. 55Joshua, because he fulfilled the command, became a judge in Israel. 56Caleb, because he testified in the assembly, received an inheritance in the land. 57David, because he was merciful, inherited the throne of the kingdom for ever. 58Elijah, because of great zeal for the law, was taken up into heaven. 59Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael believed and were saved from the flame. 60Daniel, because of his innocence, was delivered from the mouth of the lions.
61 And so observe, from generation to generation, that none of those who put their trust in him will lack strength. 62Do not fear the words of sinners, for their splendour will turn into dung and worms. 63Today they will be exalted, but tomorrow they will not be found, because they will have returned to the dust, and their plans will have perished. 64My children, be courageous and grow strong in the law, for by it you will gain honour.
65 Here is your brother Simeon who, I know, is wise in counsel; always listen to him; he shall be your father. 66Judas Maccabeus has been a mighty warrior from his youth; he shall command the army for you and fight the battle against the peoples.*

11 Then the Lord said to me: Faithless Israel has shown herself less guilty than false Judah.
12Go, and proclaim these words towards the north, and say:
Return, faithless Israel,
says the Lord.
I will not look on you in anger,
for I am merciful,
says the Lord;
I will not be angry for ever.
13 Only acknowledge your guilt,
that you have rebelled against the Lord your God,
and scattered your favours among strangers under every green tree,
and have not obeyed my voice,
says the Lord.
14 Return, O faithless children,
says the Lord,
for I am your master;
I will take you, one from a city and two from a family,
and I will bring you to Zion.
15 I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.
16And when you have multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, says the Lord, they shall no longer say, The ark of the covenant of the Lord. It shall not come to mind, or be remembered, or missed; nor shall another one be made.
17At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the Lord, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they shall no longer stubbornly follow their own evil will.
18In those days the house of Judah shall join the house of Israel, and together they shall come from the land of the north to the land that I gave your ancestors for a heritage.

1 Jude,* a servant* of Jesus Christ and brother of James,
To those who are called, who are beloved* in* God the Father and kept safe for* Jesus Christ:
2 May mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance.
3 Beloved, while eagerly preparing to write to you about the salvation we share, I find it necessary to write and appeal to you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints. 4For certain intruders have stolen in among you, people who long ago were designated for this condemnation as ungodly, who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.*
17 But you, beloved, must remember the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; 18for they said to you, In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts. 19It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions. 20But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; 21keep yourselves in the love of God; look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to* eternal life. 22And have mercy on some who are wavering; 23save others by snatching them out of the fire; and have mercy on still others with fear, hating even the tunic defiled by their bodies.*
24 Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing, 25to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, power, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. Amen.
