1 I love you, O Lord my strength. ♦︎
The Lord is my crag, my fortress and my deliverer,
2 My God, my rock in whom I take refuge, ♦︎
my shield, the horn of my salvation and my stronghold.
3 I cried to the Lord in my anguish ♦︎
and I was saved from my enemies.
4 The cords of death entwined me ♦︎
and the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
5 The cords of the Pit fastened about me ♦︎
and the snares of death entangled me.
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord ♦︎
and cried out to my God for help.
44 You will deliver me from the strife of the peoples; ♦︎
you will make me the head of the nations.
45 A people I have not known shall serve me;
as soon as they hear me, they shall obey me; ♦︎
strangers will humble themselves before me.
46 The foreign peoples will lose heart ♦︎
and come trembling out of their strongholds.
47 The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock! ♦︎
Praised be the God of my salvation,
48 Even the God who vindicates me ♦︎
and subdues the peoples under me!
49 You that deliver me from my enemies,
you will set me up above my foes; ♦︎
from the violent you will deliver me;
50 Therefore will I give you thanks, O Lord, among the nations ♦︎
and sing praises to your name,
51 To the one who gives great victory to his king ♦︎
and shows faithful love to his anointed,
to David and his seed for ever.

14David remained in the strongholds in the wilderness, in the hill country of the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but the Lord * did not give him into his hand.
15 David was in the Wilderness of Ziph at Horesh when he learned that* Saul had come out to seek his life. 16Sauls son Jonathan set out and came to David at Horesh; there he strengthened his hand through the Lord.* 17He said to him, Do not be afraid; for the hand of my father Saul shall not find you; you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be second to you; my father Saul also knows that this is so. 18Then the two of them made a covenant before the Lord; David remained at Horesh, and Jonathan went home.

16 But thanks be to God who put in the heart of Titus the same eagerness for you that I myself have. 17For he not only accepted our appeal, but since he is more eager than ever, he is going to you of his own accord. 18With him we are sending the brother who is famous among all the churches for his proclaiming of the good news;* 19and not only that, but he has also been appointed by the churches to travel with us while we are administering this generous undertaking* for the glory of the Lord himself* and to show our goodwill. 20We intend that no one should blame us about this generous gift that we are administering, 21for we intend to do what is right not only in the Lords sight but also in the sight of others. 22And with them we are sending our brother whom we have often tested and found eager in many matters, but who is now more eager than ever because of his great confidence in you. 23As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker in your service; as for our brothers, they are messengers* of the churches, the glory of Christ. 24Therefore, openly before the churches, show them the proof of your love and of our reason for boasting about you.
