1 Lord, how many are my adversaries; ♦︎
many are they who rise up against me.
2 Many are they who say to my soul, ♦︎
There is no help for you in your God.
3 But you, Lord, are a shield about me; ♦︎
you are my glory, and the lifter up of my head.
4 When I cry aloud to the Lord, ♦︎
he will answer me from his holy hill;
5 I lie down and sleep and rise again, ♦︎
because the Lord sustains me.
6 I will not be afraid of hordes of the peoples ♦︎
that have set themselves against me all around.
7 Rise up, O Lord, and deliver me, O my God, ♦︎
for you strike all my enemies on the cheek
and break the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation belongs to the Lord: ♦︎
may your blessing be upon your people.

19 As Samuel grew up, the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. 20And all Israel from Dan to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was a trustworthy prophet of the Lord. 21The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord. 41And the word of Samuel came to all Israel.
In those days the Philistines mustered for war against Israel,* and Israel went out to battle against them;* they encamped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines encamped at Aphek. 2The Philistines drew up in line against Israel, and when the battle was joined,* Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men on the field of battle.

26 For if we wilfully persist in sin after having received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a fearful prospect of judgement, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. 28Anyone who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by those who have spurned the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant by which they were sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace? 30For we know the one who said, Vengeance is mine, I will repay. And again, The Lord will judge his people. 31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
