19 So he set out from there, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, who was ploughing. There were twelve yoke of oxen ahead of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle over him. 20He left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you. Then Elijah* said to him, Go back again; for what have I done to you? 21He returned from following him, took the yoke of oxen, and slaughtered them; using the equipment from the oxen, he boiled their flesh, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out and followed Elijah, and became his servant.

1 Preserve me, O God, for in you have I taken refuge; ♦︎
I have said to the Lord, You are my lord,
all my good depends on you.
2 All my delight is upon the godly that are in the land, ♦︎
upon those who are noble in heart.
3 Though the idols are legion
that many run after, ♦︎
their drink offerings of blood I will not offer,
neither make mention of their names upon my lips.
4 The Lord himself is my portion and my cup; ♦︎
in your hands alone is my fortune.
5 My share has fallen in a fair land; ♦︎
indeed, I have a goodly heritage.
6 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel, ♦︎
and in the night watches he instructs my heart.
7 I have set the Lord always before me; ♦︎
he is at my right hand; I shall not fall.

33 Again, you have heard that it was said to those of ancient times, You shall not swear falsely, but carry out the vows you have made to the Lord. 34But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, 35or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37Let your word be Yes, Yes or No, No; anything more than this comes from the evil one.*
