1 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; ♦︎
before the gods will I sing praise to you.
2 I will bow down towards your holy temple and praise your name,
because of your love and faithfulness; ♦︎
for you have glorified your name
and your word above all things.
3 In the day that I called to you, you answered me; ♦︎
you put new strength in my soul.
4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord, ♦︎
for they have heard the words of your mouth.
5 They shall sing of the ways of the Lord, ♦︎
that great is the glory of the Lord.
6 Though the Lord be high, he watches over the lowly; ♦︎
as for the proud, he regards them from afar.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you will preserve me; ♦︎
you will stretch forth your hand against the fury of my enemies;
your right hand will save me.
8 The Lord shall make good his purpose for me; ♦︎
your loving-kindness, O Lord, endures for ever;
forsake not the work of your hands.

27 Now these are the descendants of Terah. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran was the father of Lot. 28Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29Abram and Nahor took wives; the name of Abrams wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahors wife was Milcah. She was the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and Iscah. 30Now Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 Terah took his son Abram and his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, his son Abrams wife, and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans to go into the land of Canaan; but when they came to Haran, they settled there. 32The days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
12Now the Lord said to Abram, Go from your country and your kindred and your fathers house to the land that I will show you. 2I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.*
4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. 5Abram took his wife Sarai and his brothers son Lot, and all the possessions that they had gathered, and the persons whom they had acquired in Haran; and they set forth to go to the land of Canaan. When they had come to the land of Canaan, 6Abram passed through the land to the place at Shechem, to the oak* of Moreh. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7Then the Lord appeared to Abram, and said, To your offspring* I will give this land. So he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him. 8From there he moved on to the hill country on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built an altar to the Lord and invoked the name of the Lord. 9And Abram journeyed on by stages towards the Negeb.

26When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4and they conspired to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him. 5But they said, Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people.
6 Now while Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,* 7a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. 8But when the disciples saw it, they were angry and said, Why this waste? 9For this ointment could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to the poor. 10But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? She has performed a good service for me. 11For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 12By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial. 13Truly I tell you, wherever this good news* is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.
14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15and said, What will you give me if I betray him to you? They paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.
