1 Alleluia.
Praise the Lord from the heavens; ♦︎
praise him in the heights.
2 Praise him, all you his angels; ♦︎
praise him, all his host.
3 Praise him, sun and moon; ♦︎
praise him, all you stars of light.
4 Praise him, heaven of heavens, ♦︎
and you waters above the heavens.
5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, ♦︎
for he commanded and they were created.
6 He made them fast for ever and ever; ♦︎
he gave them a law which shall not pass away.
7 Praise the Lord from the earth, ♦︎
you sea monsters and all deeps;
8 Fire and hail, snow and mist, ♦︎
tempestuous wind, fulfilling his word;
9 Mountains and all hills, ♦︎
fruit trees and all cedars;
10 Wild beasts and all cattle, ♦︎
creeping things and birds on the wing;
11 Kings of the earth and all peoples, ♦︎
princes and all rulers of the world;
12 Young men and women,
old and young together; ♦︎
let them praise the name of the Lord.
13 For his name only is exalted, ♦︎
his splendour above earth and heaven.
14 He has raised up the horn of his people
and praise for all his faithful servants, ♦︎
the children of Israel, a people who are near him.
Alleluia.

20 Mordecai recorded these things, and sent letters to all the Jews who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far, 21enjoining them that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar and also the fifteenth day of the same month, year by year, 22as the days on which the Jews gained relief from their enemies, and as the month that had been turned for them from sorrow into gladness and from mourning into a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, days for sending gifts of food to one another and presents to the poor. 23So the Jews adopted as a custom what they had begun to do, as Mordecai had written to them.
24 Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Purthat is, the lotto crush and destroy them; 25but when Esther came before the king, he gave orders in writing that the wicked plot that he had devised against the Jews should come upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows. 26Therefore these days are called Purim, from the word Pur. Thus because of all that was written in this letter, and of what they had faced in this matter, and of what had happened to them, 27the Jews established and accepted as a custom for themselves and their descendants and all who joined them, that without fail they would continue to observe these two days every year, as it was written and at the time appointed. 28These days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, in every family, province, and city; and these days of Purim should never fall into disuse among the Jews, nor should the commemoration of these days cease among their descendants.

10I myself, Paul, appeal to you by the meekness and gentleness of ChristI who am humble when face to face with you, but bold towards you when I am away! 2I ask that when I am present I need not show boldness by daring to oppose those who think we are acting according to human standards.* 3Indeed, we live as human beings,* but we do not wage war according to human standards;* 4for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human,* but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments 5and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. 6We are ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is complete.
7 Look at what is before your eyes. If you are confident that you belong to Christ, remind yourself of this, that just as you belong to Christ, so also do we. 8Now, even if I boast a little too much of our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it. 9I do not want to seem as though I am trying to frighten you with my letters. 10For they say, His letters are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 11Let such people understand that what we say by letter when absent, we will also do when present.
12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another, and compare themselves with one another, they do not show good sense. 13We, however, will not boast beyond limits, but will keep within the field that God has assigned to us, to reach out even as far as you. 14For we were not overstepping our limits when we reached you; we were the first to come all the way to you with the good news* of Christ. 15We do not boast beyond limits, that is, in the labours of others; but our hope is that, as your faith increases, our sphere of action among you may be greatly enlarged, 16so that we may proclaim the good news* in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in someone elses sphere of action. 17Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. 18For it is not those who commend themselves that are approved, but those whom the Lord commends.
