1 The Lord is my shepherd; ♦︎
therefore can I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures ♦︎
and leads me beside still waters.
3 He shall refresh my soul ♦︎
and guide me in the paths of righteousness for his names sake.
4 Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil; ♦︎
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You spread a table before me
in the presence of those who trouble me; ♦︎
you have anointed my head with oil
and my cup shall be full.
6 Surely goodness and loving mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life, ♦︎
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

17 Gather up your bundle from the ground,
O you who live under siege!
18 For thus says the Lord:
I am going to fling away the inhabitants of the land
at this time,
and I will bring distress on them,
so that they shall feel it.
19 Woe is me because of my hurt!
My wound is severe.
But I said, Truly this is my punishment,
and I must bear it.
20 My tent is destroyed,
and all my cords are broken;
my children have gone from me,
and they are no more;
there is no one to spread my tent again,
and to set up my curtains.
21 For the shepherds are stupid,
and do not inquire of the Lord;
therefore they have not prospered,
and all their flock is scattered.
22 Hear, a noise! Listen, it is coming
a great commotion from the land of the north
to make the cities of Judah a desolation,
a lair of jackals.
23 I know, O Lord, that the way of human beings is not in their control,
that mortals as they walk cannot direct their steps.
24 Correct me, O Lord, but in just measure;
not in your anger, or you will bring me to nothing.

25 Now some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, Is not this the man whom they are trying to kill? 26And here he is, speaking openly, but they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Messiah?* 27Yet we know where this man is from; but when the Messiah* comes, no one will know where he is from. 28Then Jesus cried out as he was teaching in the temple, You know me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on my own. But the one who sent me is true, and you do not know him. 29I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me. 30Then they tried to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come. 31Yet many in the crowd believed in him and were saying, When the Messiah* comes, will he do more signs than this man has done?*
32 The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering such things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent temple police to arrest him. 33Jesus then said, I will be with you a little while longer, and then I am going to him who sent me. 34You will search for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come. 35The Jews said to one another, Where does this man intend to go that we will not find him? Does he intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36What does he mean by saying, You will search for me and you will not find me and, Where I am, you cannot come?
