1 Clap your hands together, all you peoples; ♦︎
O sing to God with shouts of joy.
2 For the Lord Most High is to be feared; ♦︎
he is the great King over all the earth.
3 He subdued the peoples under us ♦︎
and the nations under our feet.
4 He has chosen our heritage for us, ♦︎
the pride of Jacob, whom he loves.
5 God has gone up with a merry noise, ♦︎
the Lord with the sound of the trumpet.
6 O sing praises to God, sing praises; ♦︎
sing praises to our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the earth; ♦︎
sing praises with all your skill.
8 God reigns over the nations; ♦︎
God has taken his seat upon his holy throne.
9 The nobles of the peoples are gathered together ♦︎
with the people of the God of Abraham.
10 For the powers of the earth belong to God ♦︎
and he is very highly exalted.

19Then the officials said to Baruch, Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.
20 Leaving the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary, they went to the court of the king; and they reported all the words to the king. 21Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary; and Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who stood beside the king. 22Now the king was sitting in his winter apartment (it was the ninth month), and there was a fire burning in the brazier before him. 23As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king* would cut them off with a penknife and throw them into the fire in the brazier, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. 24Yet neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words, was alarmed, nor did they tear their garments. 25Even when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. 26And the king commanded Jerahmeel the kings son and Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest the secretary Baruch and the prophet Jeremiah. But the Lord hid them.
27 Now, after the king had burned the scroll with the words that Baruch wrote at Jeremiahs dictation, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 28Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which King Jehoiakim of Judah has burned. 29And concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah you shall say: Thus says the Lord, You have dared to burn this scroll, saying, Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it human beings and animals? 30Therefore thus says the Lord concerning King Jehoiakim of Judah: He shall have no one to sit upon the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night. 31And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity; I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the people of Judah, all the disasters with which I have threatened thembut they would not listen.
32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the secretary Baruch son of Neriah, who wrote on it at Jeremiahs dictation all the words of the scroll that King Jehoiakim of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.

1The beginning of the good news* of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.*
2 As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,*
See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,*
who will prepare your way;
3 the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight ,
4John the baptizer appeared* in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
5And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
6Now John was clothed with camels hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.
7He proclaimed, The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals.
8I have baptized you with* water; but he will baptize you with* the Holy Spirit.
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11And a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, the Beloved;* with you I am well pleased.
12 And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13He was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.
