1 On God alone my soul in stillness waits; ♦︎
from him comes my salvation.
2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, ♦︎
my stronghold, so that I shall never be shaken.
3 How long will all of you assail me to destroy me, ♦︎
as you would a tottering wall or a leaning fence?
4 They plot only to thrust me down from my place of honour;
lies are their chief delight; ♦︎
they bless with their mouth, but in their heart they curse.
5 Wait on God alone in stillness, O my soul; ♦︎
for in him is my hope.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation, ♦︎
my stronghold, so that I shall not be shaken.
7 In God is my strength and my glory; ♦︎
God is my strong rock; in him is my refuge.
8 Put your trust in him always, my people; ♦︎
pour out your hearts before him, for God is our refuge.
9 The peoples are but a breath,
the whole human race a deceit; ♦︎
on the scales they are altogether lighter than air.
10 Put no trust in oppression; in robbery take no empty pride; ♦︎
though wealth increase, set not your heart upon it.
11 God spoke once, and twice have I heard the same, ♦︎
that power belongs to God.
12 Steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord, ♦︎
for you repay everyone according to their deeds.
1 O God, you are my God; eagerly I seek you; ♦︎
my soul is athirst for you.
2 My flesh also faints for you, ♦︎
as in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.
3 So would I gaze upon you in your holy place, ♦︎
that I might behold your power and your glory.
4 Your loving-kindness is better than life itself ♦︎
and so my lips shall praise you.
5 I will bless you as long as I live ♦︎
and lift up my hands in your name.
6 My soul shall be satisfied, as with marrow and fatness, ♦︎
and my mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,
7 When I remember you upon my bed ♦︎
and meditate on you in the watches of the night.
8 For you have been my helper ♦︎
and under the shadow of your wings will I rejoice.
9 My soul clings to you; ♦︎
your right hand shall hold me fast.
10 But those who seek my soul to destroy it ♦︎
shall go down to the depths of the earth;
11 Let them fall by the edge of the sword ♦︎
and become a portion for jackals.
12 But the king shall rejoice in God;
all those who swear by him shall be glad, ♦︎
for the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.

22After these things God tested Abraham. He said to him, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. 2He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt-offering on one of the mountains that I shall show you. 3So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac; he cut the wood for the burnt-offering, and set out and went to the place in the distance that God had shown him. 4On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place far away. 5Then Abraham said to his young men, Stay here with the donkey; the boy and I will go over there; we will worship, and then we will come back to you. 6Abraham took the wood of the burnt-offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. 7Isaac said to his father Abraham, Father! And he said, Here I am, my son. He said, The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burnt-offering? 8Abraham said, God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt-offering, my son. So the two of them walked on together.
9 When they came to the place that God had shown him, Abraham built an altar there and laid the wood in order. He bound his son Isaac, and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to kill* his son. 11But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham! And he said, Here I am. 12He said, Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me. 13And Abraham looked up and saw a ram, caught in a thicket by its horns. Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt-offering instead of his son. 14So Abraham called that place The Lord will provide;* as it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.*
15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven, 16and said, By myself I have sworn, says the Lord: Because you have done this, and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17I will indeed bless you, and I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of their enemies, 18and by your offspring shall all the nations of the earth gain blessing for themselves, because you have obeyed my voice.

23 By faith Moses was hidden by his parents for three months after his birth, because they saw that the child was beautiful; and they were not afraid of the kings edict.* 24By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called a son of Pharaohs daughter, 25choosing rather to share ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26He considered abuse suffered for the Christ* to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to the reward. 27By faith he left Egypt, unafraid of the kings anger; for he persevered as though* he saw him who is invisible. 28By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.*
29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as if it were dry land, but when the Egyptians attempted to do so they were drowned. 30By faith the walls of Jericho fell after they had been encircled for seven days. 31By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient,* because she had received the spies in peace.
