and put a knife to your throat
Do not desire the rulers
Do not wear yourself out to get rich;
When your eyes light upon it, it is gone;
Do not eat the bread of the stingy;
for like a hair in the throat, so are they.
You will vomit up the little you have eaten,
Do not speak in the hearing of a fool,
Do not remove an ancient landmark
for their redeemer is strong;
Apply your mind to instruction
Do not withhold discipline from your children;
If you beat them with the rod,
My child, if your heart is wise,
My soul will rejoice
Do not let your heart envy sinners,
Surely there is a future,
Do not be among winebibbers,
for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
Buy truth, and do not sell it;
The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice;
Let your father and mother be glad;
For a prostitute is a deep pit;
She lies in wait like a robber
Who has wounds without cause?
Those who linger late over wine,
Do not look at wine when it is red,
At the last it bites like a serpent,
Your eyes will see strange things,
You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea,
They struck me, you will say,
When shall I awake?
