Psalm 111

Praise for God’s Wonderful Works

¹ Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart,
   in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
² Great are the works of the Lord,
   studied by all who delight in them.
³ Full of honour and majesty is his work,
   and his righteousness endures for ever.
⁴ He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
   the Lord is gracious and merciful.
⁵ He provides food for those who fear him;
   he is ever mindful of his covenant.

The Miracle of the Axehead

6Now the company of prophets^* said to Elisha, ‘As you see, the place where we live under your charge is too small for us. ²Let us go to the Jordan, and let us collect logs there, one for each of us, and build a place there for us to live.’ He answered, ‘Do so.’ ³Then one of them said, ‘Please come with your servants.’ And he answered, ‘I will.’ ⁴So he went with them. When they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees.

³⁷Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? ³⁸And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? ³⁹And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” ⁴⁰And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,^* you did it to me.”
