¹⁰And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

4But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
²And he prayed unto the Lord, and said, I pray thee, O Lord, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
³Therefore now, O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
⁴Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry?
⁵So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
⁶And the Lord God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
⁷But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.
⁸And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
⁹And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
¹⁰Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
¹¹And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

Psalm 147

¹Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
²The Lord doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
³He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
⁴He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.
⁵Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
⁶The Lord lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
⁷Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
⁸Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
⁹He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.
¹⁰He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
¹¹The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
¹²Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.
¹³For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.
¹⁴He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.
¹⁵He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.
¹⁶He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
¹⁷He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
¹⁸He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
¹⁹He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
²⁰He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord.

20For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.
²And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
³And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
⁴And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
⁵Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
⁶And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
⁷They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
⁸So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
⁹And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
¹⁰But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
¹¹And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house,
¹²Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
¹³But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
¹⁴Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
¹⁵Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
¹⁶So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
